VANCOUVER ISLAND UNIVERSITY EVENT CELEBRATES NEW STATUS
NANAIMO – Vancouver Island University marked its transition to university status during a celebration of two significant events – the convocation of one of the first groups to graduate under the university banner, and the presentation of a commemorative document by Murray Coell, Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.

AWARD OPENS MORE DOORS FOR ABORIGINAL STUDENTS IN B.C.
VICTORIA – B.C. is opening more doors for Aboriginal people to achieve a post-secondary education by establishing the B.C. Aboriginal Student Award through the Province’s $10 million Aboriginal endowment, announced Murray Coell, Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.

FIRST CHANCELLOR FOR NEW CAPILANO UNIVERSITY
NORTH VANCOUVER – A celebration event at Capilano University welcomed Peter Ufford, the first chancellor for the newly designated university, helping fulfil government’s commitment to expand the public university system and provide B.C. students with more choices closer to home.

GOVERNMENT OPENS UVIC CLIMATE CHANGE RESEARCH BUILDING
VICTORIA – The University of Victoria’s $66.6-million Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences building, which will provide a home for the university’s internationally renowned climate change researchers, was opened officially today, adding another world-class research facility to the campus.
