EMERGENCY WILDFIRE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
VICTORIA – British Columbia will pay up to 750 unemployed workers to take wildfire suppression training to enhance the Province’s capacity to fight and contain forest fires, Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell announced.

SHORT DELAYS ON LEO CREEK FOREST ROAD DUE TO UPGRADE
FORT ST. JAMES – Travellers accessing Fort St. James, or the First Nation communities of Takla Landing, Buckley House or Middle River, on the Leo Creek Forest Service Road, may experience delays between now and mid-August due to roadwork (weather permitting) that will improve safety and driving conditions.

SHORT DELAYS DUE TO FOREST SERVICE ROAD UPGRADES
SEYMOUR ARM – Travellers on the 1000, 1020, 1100 Forest Service Road to Seymour Arm may experience delays of up to 30 minutes between now and Oct. 30, 2009 due to roadwork that will improve safety and year-round driving conditions.

OPEN HOUSE MEETINGS FOR ALL BC TIMBER SALES CLIENTS
BURNS LAKE – The Ministry of Forests and Range Babine Business Area will be holding a series of ‘open house’ information sessions for all of their BC Timber Sales clients and interested members of the public.

RECKLESS BEHAVIOUR THREATENS KAMLOOPS GRASSLANDS
KAMLOOPS – The ministries of Forests and Range and Environment are increasing efforts to protect an area of important grasslands near Lac du Bois Provincial Park being harmed by illegal off-road vehicle use, the dumping of garbage and the introduction of invasive plants.

Building a strong and diverse forest sector through revitalization, while maintaining high environmental standards, will help ensure long-term jobs and economic benefits.
