OLYMPIAN TAKES PART IN ACTNOW BC WALK AT STANLEY PARK
On July 22, 2008, Mary Polak, Minister of Healthy Living and Sport was joined by Olympian snowboarder Mark Fawcett to lead delegates of the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) Summit on an ActNow BC walk along the Stanley Park Seawall. A new PNWER tradition encourages delegates to take their business meetings outside by walking instead of sitting indoors.

B.C. CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF MAMMOGRAPHY SCREENING
On July 18, 2008, Healthy Living and Sport Minister Mary Polak (centre) celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Screening Mammography Program of B.C. along with Jean Orr (centre left), the first woman to benefit from the program.

TOUR DE GASTOWN SUPPORTS CANCER RESEARCH
Healthy Living and Sport Minister Mary Polak shoots the starting pistol for the Tour de Gastown on July 16, 2008. The race featured a super-fast 1.2 km course with North America's top riders battling wheel-to-wheel for more than $15,000 in cash prizes. Proceeds from the race are going to the BC Cancer Foundation to be used for cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency.

BEIJING BOUND CELEBRATION SHOWCASES OLYMPIC ATHLETES
Healthy Living and Sport Minister Mary Polak wished Fraser Valley Olympic and Paralympic athletes well, during the Beijing Bound celebration in Abbotsford on July 12, as they prepare to head to the games in Beijing.

SURREY WELCOMES ROAD TO HEALTH COMMUNITY TOUR
On July 12, Healthy Living and Sport Minister Mary Polak joined the Road to Health Community Tour in Surrey, which is one of 18 different communities the Tour will visit in the province.

B.C. TO HOST WORLD POLICE AND FIRE GAMES IN 2009
Minister Polak and Burnaby North MLA Richard Lee joined event organizers on July 10, 2008 to promote the World Police and Fire Games, which will be hosted from July 31 to August 9, 2009 in the Lower Mainland.
