STUDENTS GO GREEN WITH WALKING SCHOOL BUS
Healthy Living and Sport Minister Mary Polak is joined by Education Minister Shirley Bond (centre) and Ida Chong, Minister of Technology, Trade and Economic Development (left), along with students from Frank Hobbs Elementary during an event to celebrate the Walking School Bus program.

On October 8, Minister Polak along with Minister of Education Shirley Bond and Minister of Technology, Trade and Economic Development Ida Chong, marked International Walk to School Day by joining the students of Frank Hobbs Elementary School in Victoria on their walking school bus trip to school. The Walking School Bus initiative helps students reduce their carbon footprint and become more physically active.

GROWING CHAMPIONS PROGRAM SUPPORTS EXCELLENCE IN SPORT
Minister Polak greets Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic athletes - medal winners Carol Huynh, gold medallist, Free Style Wrestling, and Stephanie Dixon, four-time medallist, Paralympic Swimming.

On Oct. 6, 2008, businesses welcomed back the province's Beijing athletes and met future athletes from the Growing Champions sponsorship program. The reception was held at Players Chophouse Restaurant and Lounge in Vancouver and was presented by the Vancouver Board of Trade's Spirit of Vancouver program, 2010 Legacies Now and the Province of B.C.

SENIORS’ VIGNETTES PROMOTE HEALTHY, ACTIVE LIFESTYLES
Healthy Living and Sport Minister Mary Polak (centre) is joined by Kamlesh Sethi (left) and Maghar Sanghe, president of the Surrey-Delta Indo-Canadian Seniors Society during the launch of the vignettes, which have begun airing on the Knowledge Network.

On October 1, 2008, Healthy Living and Sport Minister Mary Polak launched the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity for Seniors vignettes, which promote healthy lifestyle tips for older adults in B.C.
