$1.8 MILLION FOR 18 ACTNOW BC SENIORS COMMUNITY PARKS
On September 23, 2008 at the Union of British Columbia Muncipalities convention in Penticton, Minister Polak announced $1.8 million for 18 ActNow BC Seniors Community Parks to be located throughout the province. She was joined by Kelowna mayor Sharon Shepherd (far right), Penticton-Okanagan MLA Bill Barisoff and Harry Caine (far left), who championed the Lions Wellness Park in Tsawwassen.
Following through on a commitment from the 2008 throne speech, the ActNow BC Seniors Community Parks are designed to help older adults stay mobile, physically active and healthy in their communities.

B.C. COACHES HONOURED DURING COACHES WEEK
Minister Polak presented awards to coaches at the British Columbia Coaches Week Coaching Conference in Richmond to celebrate BC Coaches Week, Sept. 20-27, 2008.

CANADIAN 08/09 SHORT TRACK TEAMS SELECTED AT OLYMPIC VENUE
On September 18, 2008 Minister Polak and B.C. Speed Skating Association President Sue Spencer presented Canada's men's and women's team for the upcoming World Cup Short Track Speed Skating season of World Cup competitions. The second World Cup event takes place in Vancouver, Oct. 24-26.

PROVINCE LAUNCHES ACTION PLAN TO SUPPORT SENIORS
VANCOUVER – The government of British Columbia has released its action plan to support B.C. seniors in living healthy, active, independent lives, Healthy Living and Sport Minister Mary Polak announced.
