MINISTER ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR FESTIVAL 150

May 23, 2008 – Minister Stan Hagen, helped by singer Jessie Farrell, announced Festival 150, a four-day, multi-cultural celebration happening in Victoria, August 1 to 4. Farrell, an award-winning artist, is among the many B.C. entertainers who will be performing at the festival.

SPIRIT POLE BEGINS HISTORIC JOURNEY TO CELEBRATE COWICHAN 2008 NORTH AMERICAN INDIGENOUS GAMES

May 2, 2008 – During the Cowichan 2008 Spirit Pole stop in Duncan, Minister Hagen signs up to be a volunteer for the Cowichan 2008 North American Indigenous Games.

The Cowichan phrase Nuts'amaat Shqwaluwun translates to "working together to help one another." The Cowichan 2008 North American Indigenous Games is requesting the assistance of 3,000 volunteers to help deliver the Games in August 2008.

April 24, 2008 – Minister Stan Hagen joined go2 and the B.C. Construction Association to announce an innovative employment program that will benefit B.C.'s tourism and construction industries. BC150 BIRTHDAY CAKE

March 20, 2008 – Minister Stan Hagen and Minister Tom Christensen cut a BC150 birthday cake at the Downtown Vernon Association (DVA) AGM. As the oldest city in the Okanagan, Vernon has enthusiastically embraced the spirit of BC150; the DVA has created the Spirit of Downtown Vernon Award this year to link the local community and its rich history to BC150.

MINISTER HAGEN PRESENTS A CHEQUE TO BRING FRANCODOME TO B.C.

March 11, 2008 – Minister Hagen presents Moussa Magassa of the B.C. Francophone Federation with a cheque to help bring the Francodôme to B.C. The dome is traveling to nine provinces and one territory throughout the summer. It is timed to be in B.C. June 12-15, to coincide with the annual Vancouver Francophone Summer Festival. The Province has committed $30,000 to connect the 400th anniversary of Quebec City with the B.C. 150 celebrations.

AN ARTIST'S RENDERING OF THE NEW PEACE ARCH GATEWAY VISITOR'S CENTRE, SLATED FOR COMPLETION FEBRUARY 2009

VANCOUVER – International visitors to British Columbia will enjoy top level service and information in the brand new Peace Arch Gateway Visitors Centre starting in February 2009, Premier Gordon Campbell announced Feb 21.

Premier Campbell unveiled the design of the new $4.6-million building during his address to the Council of Tourism Associations’ annual conference in Vancouver. He was joined at the conference by Minister Stan Hagen. The innovative design of the new building will feature structural and decorative indigenous forest elements featuring B.C. tree species, mountains and rivers. CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF THE "DEUCE"

VICTORIA – Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Stan Hagen arrives in style at the July 29 Northwest Deuce Days celebration of the 1932 Ford known as the "Deuce." Over 750 vintage cars were on display in Victoria including more than 400 versions of the car immortalized in the movie "American Graffiti", in the Beach Boys’ "Little Deuce Coupe" and by thousands of hot-rodders over the years.

Heritage Week kicks off on February 19 and runs through February 25. This year's theme is "Vernacular Heritage: Architecture Without Architects."

MINISTER HAGEN PROMOTES B.C. FILM INDUSTRY

December 13, 2006 - Minister responsible for film Stan Hagen visits the set of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, shot in downtown Vancouver. Earlier in December, Minister Hagen and representatives from the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of British Columbia (MPPIA) and the BC Film Commission met with Los Angeles film industry leaders to promote British Columbia as a film production location.

November 22, 2006 - B.C. Lions Geroy Simon, Mark Washington and Brent Johnson join Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Stan Hagen, Victoria minor football players and MLAs to celebrate the Lions' victory in the 94th Grey Cup Game. The Grey Cup, Canada's oldest major sports trophy, was on display in the Parliament Buildings and later the Lions and the Cup were honoured in the Legislative Assembly.
